After almost 30 years in the best job a person could have, I will be retiring from Wellness House on December 31, 2019. To say it’s been my honor and privilege to be part of this organization is an understatement. It has been a remarkable ride! As I reflect on my journey, my mind goes back to the moment in time this picture represents. This is my Mom and me on my wedding day (1973). Months after this picture was taken, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer and a few short months after that, my Mom died. It remains the most devastating loss I have ever experienced. She was my best friend. Fifteen years after her death, Wellness House opened in Hinsdale and I couldn’t get there fast enough to find out how I could help. I began working in program in 1990 and became Executive Director in 2000. Throughout the past 29 years we have served nearly 40,000 people and have grown our footprint to not only serve people in our home in Hinsdale, but also through 17 partner sites throughout the Chicagoland area. Thank you, Mom, for your hand in all of this!
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably contributed to our success along the way. This year’s Walk will be my last as CEO of Wellness House. I’m hoping to form the biggest CELLA-BRATORS TEAM EVER!!! And….I want to dedicate the funds raised to Mothers affected by cancer, whether diagnosed themselves or caring for a child with cancer. Mothers ROCK—I know mine did!
Please consider being a CELLA-BRATOR by participating in the Walk or donating to our team.
From the bottom of my heart, Thank you, thank you!!!
