Walk for Wellness: Walking for My Mom
For people who know me, they know that my Mom and I are very close. She is my favorite person and quite honestly my best friend. Last year, my Mom was diagnosed with skin cancer, which was very hard for me and our entire family. My Mom is the rock of our family and does so much for us, it was hard to see her struggling with her diagnosis. Although the diagnosis was hard on our family, it ultimately grew us all closer together, which was so important to help us all get through. Luckily, she was able to have surgery and is cancer free and happy as of today!
During the time before and after her surgery, I had the opportunity to be an intern at the Wellness House in Hinsdale, IL. Everyday I was immersed with inspiring people who themselves were suffering from cancer or were survivors themselves. Also, I was able to work side by side with the staff who helped me learn valuable skills on dealing with the hardships that cancer can have on an individual, a family and a community. My experience with Wellness House was one I will never forget. It has helped not only shape who I have now become as a person, but helped me realize where I want to go in the future. I am forever grateful for the summer I had at Wellness House and the people who mentored me and helped me along the way.
The Wellness House does such great work for people with cancer and their families and I cannot think of better way to say thank you than to give back to them. My Mom is a cancer survivor and still has a long road ahead of her, but it is so comforting knowing that Wellness House will be there to support her whenever she needs it.
My goal is to raise $500 for Wellness House, in the name of my Mom, Kim Mattucci. Any amount you can give is appreciated and helps to keep this wonderful place able to support more and more cancer patients and survivors.
Thank you in advance for your support and donations!
