Welcome to Team Morrison
I will be participating in the Walk for Wellness House on Sunday, May 5. Any of you that would like to join us again this year are welcome.
Eighteen months ago, just after Thanksgiving 2017, my wife Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. To say it was a shock and kick to the gut is an understatement. Life as we knew it had changed. Getting Kim, and our family, ready for the next part of the journey became a full-time job for Kim. She studied furiously, soaked up medical journals and studies, and enrolled in treatment at one of Chicago’s finest cancer centers. But, as those of you who have suffered from cancer know, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment and every time you think something is going according to plan, things change. Her journey has been longer than expected and she just finished 5 weeks of radiation.
Getting a cancer diagnosis can be stressful for the patient, their family, and friends. That’s where Wellness House helps. It meets lots of needs– listening, teaching, guiding and empowering. It takes a psychosocial approach to healing, accounting for all aspects that impact how people affected by cancer are doing, beyond medical care.
Wellness House has been doing this important work for more than 29 years. Wellness House was the primary place outside the family where Kim could get some real peace of mind. She has used plenty of their resources: yoga, meditation, nutrition and general guidance. She has even taken cooking classes for living life with cancer. For those of you that know her, you probably realize that she delegates the cooking; so I’ve taken those classes too. Gone are the burgers, steaks on the grill and in are vegetables and other plant-based foods that we had hardly ever heard of, much less incorporated into our daily diet. Kim looks great. I still have lunch downtown so it hasn’t helped me as much.
Wellness House is able to offer these critical services at no cost to those affected by cancer thanks to generous support from donors. This cause is very important to me, and I have signed up for the Walk for Wellness House to show my support.
It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause by making your tax deductible donation online using the link below.
