I Am Running for Wellness House. Here's Why:
Hi, I'm Sara. I am a 2 year survivor of Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I was diagnosed with cancer when my second son was 3 weeks old. At that time, I put all of my energy into beating cancer and taking care of my kids. Once I won my fight, I realized life as a new survivor is difficult. For 6 months, my life was full of doctors appointments and then you are kind of thrown to the wolves. Everything in your life has changed. You aren't the person you once were. Anxiety about cancer and death kicked in hard for me. At that time, I looked into local cancer support groups. I tried a few different ones at Wellness House and knew after one Young Adults Group that I had to start attending. That was in the summer of 2018 and I have been to almost each monthly meeting since then. Wellness House has given me a place to go to meet other young adults who have been through similar things. I get to connect with people who have similar thoughts and feelings I have. We can make jokes about the things we have experienced because of cancer. I feel normal there. If it wasn't for Wellness House, I don't know where I would be mentally. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of places like Wellness House and there are even fewer places that connect young adults going through their cancer journey together. I am so lucky that I found the Young Adults Support Group and am very grateful that Wellness House is around.
No matter how someone has been affected by cancer — maybe they've been diagnosed, have a family member who’s living with cancer, or are a caregiver — you're welcome at Wellness House. All Wellness House programs and services are led by experts, designed to prepare and empower you to fully live life with cancer. All at no cost to you.
You can't put a price on what Wellness House provides. Thanks to the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporations like you that provide gifts to Wellness House, there's absolutely no charge for all programs and services.
I am participating in the Walk for Wellness House 5K because I know first hand how important support and community is for people impacted by cancer, and I want to ensure that people have access to the life-changing programs and services at Wellness House.
I hope you will join me by making a donation, but more importantly to help people affected by cancer in our community.
