Walk for Wellness House

Team Ratcliff

Friends and Family -

For the last 5 years, as a board member of Wellness House, I have requested a donation from many of you for this incredible organization - Wellness House.

This year is special for 2 reasons.

First, this is my final year on the board and I would appreciate your help going out with a bang.

Second and more important, a friend and former colleague of mine, Bill Renick recently lost his bout with Pancreatic Cancer this past week.  Bill was a person who had the warmest heart and a passion for the people that he lead and worked with.  The world lost a very special man when we lost Bill.  Wellness House was very special to Bill and his family.  In a Chicago Tribune article below from last year before the 2016 Walk, he was interviewed about Wellness House and the Wellness Walk -

Chicago Tribune - April, 2016 - "Each year on the first Sunday morning in May, thousands of people gather at the corner of County Line Road and Walnut Street in Hinsdale, IL. Wellness House sits on this corner, and the people who gather here all have one thing in common: they have been impacted by cancer. The energy this crowd emits is palpable throughout the neighborhood!

Since 1990, Wellness House has been envisioning a community where all people affected by cancer thrive. Offered at no cost, and as a complement to medical treatment, Wellness House programs educate, support and empower participants so they will improve their physical and emotional well-being.

Participant Bill Renick says being at Wellness House gave him the space and support he needed. When asked about the Walk, Bill talked about all the buzz surrounding it in the support groups and the exercise programs. "I've told my family, we have to do the Walk. It's a big deal." Bill was in the middle of chemo when he did the Walk last year. "I did more walking in that one day than I had walked in the entire year of 2015." Like others who come out to show support, he immediately felt part of the amazing camaraderie. "Even if you can't walk, you still need to come. You'll feel the love and support of others like us," he adds.

My prayers go out to Judy and Bill's family - he will be missed.

With support groups, exercise and nutrition classes, social events, and much, much more, Wellness House is designed to give back the strength, community, and control that cancer can take away.  Since you can’t put a price on these things, they don’t either - there’s absolutely no charge for all of the programs and services that they offer.

This cause is very important to me, and I hope you will join me by making a donation or joining my team!
